Turkish citizens protesting Israel’s recent attack on Gaza yesterday raised the Palestinian flag over Israel’s Turkish embassy in solidarity with the people of Gaza.
Shortly after the news broke of Israel’s latest attack on Gaza protesters began to gather at the Israeli embassy to condemn the actions of the Israeli Defence Force.
Protests quickly turned angry as the police failed to keep the gathering crowd from the embassy gates. Protesters were eventually dispersed from the area with tear gas but only extensive damage to the building was done.
Several small fires, smashed windows and furniture have all been reported from various news outlets, while individuals on Twitter described the embassy as ‘burning’.
In response to the violence against it’s embassy Israel reduced their staff numbers to a bare minimum and condemned the Turkish response to these demonstrations, calling the authorities’ actions a ‘blatant breach of diplomatic regulations.’
The protests seen in Turkey come alongside numerous international protests aimed at Israel’s recent ground invasion of Palestinian territory that include marches and protests at several Israeli embassies.
