Georgia: court issues former president Mikheil Saakashvili with search order

Georgian authorities in Tbilisi have this week issued a search order for the home of ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili.

The former politician was previously charged with large-scale embezzlement of public funds, as well as assaulting a former member of parliament and also illegally dispersing anti-government protests in 2007, during his time in office.

Saakashvili, who is currently out of the country, has been placed on pre-trial detention after the Tbilisi court ordered a search of his home. On his return to the country the former politician will be detained and tried for the crimes committed during his time in power.
