The chief of security at Armenia’s National Assembly has this week been photographed assaulting a female journalist during a street art performance outside the NA building.

The reporter, Marineh Khachatryan, was there for the news site A1+ after street art group ‘Counter Strike’ hung a banner outside the main gate reading ‘Hello Rob’, in reference to the former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan.

The Chief of Secutiry was seen hitting Khachatryan on the arm and trying to push her away from the building’s gates. His identity was not fully known until after the incident, when he was identified as the NA’s Chief of Security, Karen Hayrapetyan.

In a video also taken during the incident Hayrapetyan claims that he thought Khachatryan was a member of the protesting group because she wasn’t wearing her press credentials.

After images and video of the assault were released the incident caused much shock and outrage among the online community – who have viewed the Chief of Security’s treatment of a female reporter as draconian and ‘fascistic’.
