“Nothing should be ruled out” says Georgian minister on Abkhazia joining Russia

185_185_629546__MG_1867Speaking to press earlier this week Georgia’s State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality, Paata Zakareishvili, said that his government should not underestimate the possibility of Abkhazia joining the Federation of Russia.

“I think Russia will not be able to annex Abkhazia” he stated, later adding “however, nothing should be ruled out.”

Many political commentators have viewed his statements of indicating Georgia’s concern over losing all control of Abkhazia. Although Russia has denied that it wishes to annex the largely-unrecognised breakaway state many Abkhazians, including members of the defacto government, have expressed desires to join the Russian Federation.
