A new website covering local and global LGBT news storied in Armenian is now online.
The site, LGBTnews.AM, launched earlier this month with the aim of covering LGBT topics both in Armenian and internationally. The website is currently the only one of its kind as a website written in Armenian that specifically focuses on LGBT topics.
Homosexuality and other LGBT sexualities are still considered taboo in Armenia, where the majority conservative religious view the LGBT community poorly.
It is hoped that the website will be able to provide more accurate and reliable information on LGBT issues to Armenians. Currently very few Armenian news sources are friendly towards the LGBT community and Armenia has a strong culture of homophobic media and press.
Another large problem very common in the Armenian media is bias towards LGBT individuals, as well as a lack of accurate information, sometimes purposefully incorrect information.
LGBT News AM is supported by the Norwegian Foreign Embassy.
