Russian authorities have this week confirmed the killing of two militants in the North Caucasus Kabardino-Balkaria republic.
The news came after authorities launched a security operation near the border between Kabardino-Balkaria and Stavropol Krai that restricted travel in the area and forced local residents to remain indoors. The restrictions have since been lifted.
Earlier this week local authorities were informed that an armed group were travelling to the Stavropol Krai border to carry out a suspected terrorist attack. The group was intercepted and two militants were killed in an incident near the village of Psykhurei.
The identity of the militants and the group are currently unknown and Russian authorities have yet to comment officially on the incident.
