Turkish trans woman found dead in suspected murder

Turkish LGBT group Kaos GL today reported the death of a trans woman known as ‘Gypsy Rose’.

Gypsy Rose was found dead in her home earlier this week in what is being treated as a murder case. Police confirmed later that Rose has died from stab wounds and that an investigation was underway.

Friends of Rose reported her missing after she had not been seen for two days. Neighbours also confirmed her absence and reported having heard suspicious noises coming from her apartment.

It is believed that Rose was working as a sex worker at the time she was killed. Kaos GL confirmed that former clients are being treated as the most likely suspects of the attack.

Trans women across the world face widespread persecution for their gender-identities and in many cases resort to sex work after struggling to find stable incomes. Trans sex workers are also among the most persecuted and marginalised women in many countries, and often face violence, abuse and in some cases even murder.
