The Southern Military District Press service in Russia have this week confirmed that a team of military personnel are currently using Armenian territory to run practice sessions for drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The special drills are currently taking part in the Kamhud alpine training facility in Armenia and have seen military personnel practice drone operation for reconnaissance missions.
News of the new Russian drills comes after previous reports from earlier this year confirmed that Russia was using Armenia as a practice area for new models of drones which were to be used in future military operations, including those seen in Ukraine.
Armenia has retained close ties to Russia following the collapse of the Soviet Union and Armenia is currently the home to a number of permanently station Russian military units. Armenia also relies heavily for military protection and Russian military currently protect several areas along Armenia’s borders.
