LGBT magazine names Vladimir Putin ‘person of the year’

Putin.jpgUS-based LGBT publication The Advocate have this week named Russian President Vladimir Putin as their ‘person of the year’.

The publication gave the controversial Russian leader the title after describing him as ‘the single greatest threat to LGBTs in the world in 2014’.

In a special end-of-year edition The Advocate looked back on the people and events that were highly important to the LGBT community, both good and bad. Top of the list was President Putin, whose attitude towards the LGBT community was declared globally significant. In the list the publication also described Putin as ‘autocratic’, mentioning his ‘anti-gay ideology’ as one of the biggest impactors on the global LGBT community.

Vladimir Putin was also featured on the front cover on the new edition, alongside a provacatively placed title which helped evoke the image of Adolph Hitler.
