Armenian university bans discrimination based on sexual orientation

auaThe American University of Armenia have today passed a new rule banning any discrimination based on sexual-orientation among their students and staff.

The new rules, shared by a student of the university, now bans any students from discrimination based on sexual-orientation as well as a number of other factors including race, religion and physical ability.

It is believed that this is the first time that a university in Armenia has considered discrimination based on sexual-orientation as a punishable offense and is being seen as a positive step forward by many.

Although exact punishments in the new rules are not specified it is believed that the American University of Armenia will now treat this form of discrimination on the same level as that of gender, ability or religious discrimination. It is also believed that the new rules were proposed in order to bring the AUA closer to the standards of American educational institutes.
